If you have 8 on, it isn't too bad having all on comms. In MWO, when we had to sync drop and actually played against each other,I'd go into TS and set the 3D sound so that my lance was set to my right (hear them in right ear) and positioned other playerson the left (hear through left ear). Worked well, it isn't hard to keep up with who is where.

That way you can still have the big groupon comms, which is a lot more fun, especially if working together, but you can still keep everyone organized.

Elite Dangerous Switch Fire Groups

Howdy folks!I got myself a Viper MKIV and got all sorts of goodies on it. Now I am a little confused as to how to set the fire groups up.I have four weapons in the hardpoints (two lasers and two cannons), as well as a basic scanner and a k-warrant scanner. I would like to put the lasers and cannons on different fire groups, but I appear to only have '1' and '2'. My issue is that if I split them like that, then I can't use the k-warrant scanner without shooting at the target.I have to be doing something wrong setting up the fire groups. Could someone please give me some tips and pointers?

If it matters at all, I am using the T.Flight Hotas 4 with default button settings. Thanks in advance!. The 1 and 2 you're seeing are referring to which trigger button you press to fire.

If you have lasers set to 1, then they'll fire when you press the right trigger. If you have cannons set to 2, they'll fire when you press the right. The columns you see when you set your groupings refer to a fire group. They're distinct groups that you can switch to (Triangle+R1/R2, IIRC.) Cycling between groups will allow you to fire whatever weapons you have bound to 1 and 2, for that fire group. The way I have it set up is my scanner and planet scanner are set to 1 and 2, respectively, in the first column of my weapon groups. In the second, I have lasers set to 1, and missiles set to 2.

When I drop into a system I can just press my right trigger to scan, or my left to scan a planet. If I get into a fight, I switch to my combat fire group.Does that make sense?. You can set up more than one firegroup.

Set one to have your discovery scanner on 1 and the K warrant scanner on 2 (or vice versa), then set up a second firegroup for your guns where the laser is 1 and the cannon is 2 (or vice versa).Switch between the two by holding down square, then tapping R1. EDIT: Also for anyone reading this who's struggling with firegroups for defensive things like heat sink launchers, ECMs, Chaff, etc.

If you go into your control settings, you can set up custom keybindings for things like that (and all kinds of other stuff). If you set up a custom keybinding you don't need to tie those things to a firegroup.

So for example, my heat sink launcher is set to A+B (Square+X on PS), so whenever I'm in a fight and need to pop one, I just press that, and I never have to put my guns away to use it. As an XB1 Cmdr, that's out of my wheelhouse. But, take the time and look at all the settings for controls.

It's a LONG menu, and as a new player some of the stuff you're seeing won't make sense, and some of it will. Just run through the list and maybe you'll find something for your R1 button that isn't assigned by default. Also, if you are gonna go and look at the control options, check under the 'Miscellaneous' section near the bottom and enable the 'Centre-Screen Dot'. You'll thank me the next time your canopy glass gets shot out, or when you get a big ship and realize how useful it is for lining your ship up straight for landings.
