I can’t find anywhere in the UK offering the preorder of the collector’s edition yet, and already they’re announcing this nonsense? This is just Day One DLC, surely, rather than “extra goodies”.If they’re going to start this old business and go crazy with the downloadable content (as Richie rather presciently suggested only a few days ago on the forum), I might just wait a couple of years for the inevitable Game of the Year edition, with all the DLC and such built into the disk, for less money. I’ve already wound up buying Oblivion and Fallout 3 and all their DLC twice over each, by getting the initial retail release and then getting the Game of the Year versions a few years down the line, and I’m not looking forwards to doing it again. Doesn’t bother me to be honest, if I want something and have the money for it then I’ll buy it.

If it doesn’t take my fancy, or I don’t have the money for it, then I’ll just hang off and play whatever came as standard (assuming I’ve bought the game of course!). Personally speaking, I don’t see the problem in offering incentives to buy from particular vendors as with the recent RDR incentives, it’s rare that every one of them will appeal to every type of player so they’ll invariably just go for whichever one actually suits them.

I’m in the moaning and not buying it camp. What concerns me as much as the balance issue though is whether these items will be available in the retail game, just not from the start. If they’re in the game anyway and you can get them by just playing through, I couldn’t care less, and I’m not so bothered. Up to stupid people whether they want to pay to cheat.If on the other hand some of those weapons and armour sets are not in the game at all unless you buy the DLC, that changes things. Part of my collector obsession is having the most complete possible version of a game. Which is why I spent far too much money on Mass Effect 2 preorder armour codes on eBayI also know that for all my fine talk of saving money, I will almost certainly buy the Collector’s Edition (when I manage to find it somewhere from a UK retailer), and then wind up getting the Game of the Year when it comes out in 2012, too. I will probably try to justify it, as with Oblivion and Fallout 3, by buying it on the 360 first, and then getting it on PC with the GotY.
