Hi,Prices are similar where I live, so I was wondering if it is still a good choice nowadays to buy an Asus i7 3610M with GT 630M with a few years old or a new laptop with something like a i5 5200u with a 820M? I was looking their benchmarks and the i7 is waaay higher, but I have no idea what to do. I'll run some Autocad drawings and other civil engineering softwares, record music in my home studio with 8 channels at once and I'll also monitor live music instruments, using some audio plugins in real time, etc. I'm not worried about RAM because I can easily upgrade that later. Thanks a lot!

Evening,I'd say go for the i7 laptop, even though it is older, newer models of Intel's processors don't really change much except some better battery life. The i7 is a better choice due to the increase of Hyper Threading which is good for the stuff you want to do. Most of these applications use the CPU more than the GPU anway so all in all, go for the i7 lappie and you won' regret it!It also has a higher cache which is useful for running demanding / a lot of applications.Take my word for it!Regards. I was thinking just that, but I read so many threads recommending a newer cpu with better gpu, even with a slower cpu, that I ended having this doubt. Thanks a lot!!I was having the same doubt here. Latin name of hydrogen. Is it the asus n46v? Do you regret of your choice?I was in doubt of a i7 3610qm + geforce gt 630m and a i5 5200u and a geforce 920mIt's a K45VM.

I do not regret buying it, but I didn't actually run a side by side comparison with the 5200U. It handles everything I use with ease, and after I replaced the DVD-Rom with a SSD, it went from great to awesome. Turns on in a matter of seconds, and until now it ran all my DAW mixes with no problems at all.
