Level in survival. Upgrade set at 55 and 85 (at minimum)IntroductionGrim Dawn's class system allows for tremendous customization and the DAIL mod pushes that even further with the introduction of 20+ other classes. Combined with the various different modes of play available, the replayability of the game has gone through the roof. However, it can be hard to start a new character and progress through the same content over and over until you get to the meat of the game where you can see your build shine (or falter).

Luckily, it is very easy to level if you know what you are doing and don't care about following the story. Only follow this guide when you've experienced all that vanilla has to offer! How to level.Start a new character and progress through the start of act 1. Ideally, you want to farm around 500-1000 iron and get at least a few levels. Use this time to decide which class you want to main as there are quite a few options!

Do not progress past the tree as it will spawn quite a few hero mobs that are very difficult to kill and not worth the effort.restart your game and select rifts or DGA from the custom games menu.Collect the quests from the quest givers to the left and then make your way to the general store that is towards the right. This store sells a set of equipment that you will use all the way to ultimate. This set includes all your armor pieces as well as jewelry and most importantly provides you with a 200% experience bonus as well as +2 to all skills. This set also upgrades with the material you find in the DGA at levels 15,25,40,55,75 and finally 85.

At level 55, the skill bonus doubles to +4 total (with both sets) and goes to a total of +6 at level 85. These extra skill points are tremendously helpful, allowing you to pump mastery instead of your core skills, and getting a ton of value out of 1 pointers.Finish the quest that involves killing monsters and creating essences. This quest gives you all 5 bags right off the bat! Collect and sell as much equipment as you can in order to boost your iron as it is needed to upgrade your sets. You also need a lot of essences, so make sure to pick up anything tagged as (currency).at level 15 or 25 (when you've upgraded your set to your current level), restart the game and select survival.

Survival mode has the highest experience gain of all the modes and also provides you with devotion points as you complete the waves. This is the primary method of leveling quickly, but requires you to deal a lot of AoE damage to progress quickly.Level using survival mode all the way up to 55 (takes less than an hour, depending on how fast you can kill the waves). At 55, restart the game in DGA to farm for your set. DAIL is a compilation of mods that change the game.

Amongst other things, it adds new classes, new items, changes spawn rate of monsters, as well as adding in new ways to play. Rifts (named after the rifts in Diablo 3),or DGA (dynamically generated areas) are a new mode of play that involves generating areas of monsters to kill. Survival mode spawns waves of monsters to kill.If you just started playing GD, I'd recommend staying away from modding your game and instead experiencing the game the way Crate intended. When you get bored with the main game, feel free to mod it the way you want!. I don't know about benchmark mod, but DAIL is definitely the biggest compilation of mods. Check out the official thread. Like I said, its a compilation, meaning it combines many different mods that other authors have made into one.

These individual mods are available to download as standalones, but they generally change individual things- adding a new class, changing drop rates, changing a game mechanic, etc. DAIL changes all these things at once in a stable release so that you don't have to worry about bugs (although there definitely are a few). The Eternal mod is a major part of the leveling guide- this is where the Survival mode comes from. However, I didn't know about this trick! In fact, I'm not even sure exactly what you mean, as loading in Survival mode puts you in a unique area that (as far as I know) doesn't have any doors to open, or even a Devils Crossing area.

Regardless, If this works as you say it is definitely a quicker way to level. I prefer actually killing monsters to level as you get a feel for your build as you go.

Thanks for the tip though!. When you load up Eternal, you get instantly revered with Devil's Crossing, which makes you able to instantlyThe first dozen levels are just boring IMO, skipping this part isn't a bad thing when you know how the game works. This works best when you're spell based. Although if you do that you might not have money, so if you're using melee or ranged attacks that scale with your weapon check the rest of the post.An alternative way would be to go do the first quest in normal, kill the reanimator and talk to Bourbon. Load up your character in Eternal, go back to the main game in Elite/Ultimate do what I wrote on my other post. You should have enough iron to buy a good white weapon, which is more than enough to have when you're sub level 20.

I'm still playing 0046 and there's a bizarre (probably buggy, I guess) method for good levelling via DGA. If you use the NPC to gain a level for Hero Souls just after you have levelled up normally you will gain almost 2 full levels. For example, if you are 41.1 and you use Hero Souls you will reach something like 42.9. Hop back into a map (I agree on 07 for quickly reaching the boss) once or twice until you level then use the NPC again. I think this method doesn't work in the most recent methods of DAIL since the hero soul cost has been vastly increased.

(FWIW if you're at 19.9 and use the NPC you'll get to something like 20.1 it's a complete waste of time - I'm guessing there's a badly written calculation in a script somewhere). It is probably not as efficient as pure survival, but I don't mind adding the variety since I know from 90-100 Survival is about a million times better than anything else right now and I'll be doing it a lot at that point.FWIW I do normal, elite and Ultimate at 85 since it rewards meaningful XP until 90. Again, it's not as efficient as Survival, but I have to run through the maps at some point (skills and attribute points, and since I've got that far in the campaign: easy black legion rep).TBH I think the Survival XP needs to be brought into line. It's just too high compared to all the other modes, especially at the 90-100 stage. Also, epics and legendaries do get affixes in the World map version of DAIL (certainly from 0042 to 0046 they did, anyway).Anyway, nice to see a nice DAIL related around here. Once DGA is no longer as potent I'm sure I'll switch to a lot of Survival levelling. Wow, that's great advice! I love when people come together to share their little tips and secrets for the betterment of all players! I've noticed something wonky with the way that experience was granted as well (specifically on the first free level you get via the quest giver).

In 0050 the cost is a lot higher for the free level as you state, instead granting a 25% experience boost in place for the same cost (IIRC).I agree that it can get boring grinding the same content, but you have to sacrifice for efficiency (if thats your game). I always go through the map at least once as well on each character, especially finding my class specific vendor. I've noticed that grinding at least a little devils crossing experience is worth it since you can buy quite a few items from the Survival vendor with high enough reputation. The Survival mod (Eternal?) provides a little too much, making it quite easy to gear and level your character. It can definitely use a little tuning to bring it in line with the rest of the methods, so that as players we have a choice of what we want to do: grind rifts in DGA, do the main campaign, or do Survival. Once the bugs are fixed as you state, Survival will definitely be the most efficient way to level (the mob density in rifts is nowhere near what survival is capable of).Of course, it is possible to leave it as so that the option is there for those who prefer faster leveling. I quite enjoy mowing down wave after wave in 15 seconds with my Elementalist!. I've been hanging back on sharing tips and tricks for DAIL for one reason or another, but since we had a thread here with the most OP method, I figured I'd throw the DGA stuff in the pot.

The most broken things that I have come across I just put in the threads on the official forums for the appropriate mod so that they can, hopefully, get fixed or addressed. That said, in terms of making it quite easy to gear a character: the DGA component vendor. Absolutely broken!

Once you have that thing unlocked you can run Survival if you're short on Iron and then you can just buy all the best components in the game!I think the problem with leaving all these crazy things in the game is that some people will use/abuse them and wreck the longevity of the game for themselves. Though that's where I'm hoping that people will start working on mods that add new content to the game in terms of stuff to do with a fully levelled/geared character.
